What is Germoloids Cream used for?
This medicine is used to relieve the symptoms of pain, swelling and irritation associated with piles (haemorrhoids) and anal itching (pruritus ani).
What is in the tube?
This tube of Germoloids Cream contains a white cream containing Zinc Oxide Ph Eur 6.6% w/w and Lidocaine Hydrochloride Ph Eur 0.7% w/w as the active ingredients.
It also contains: emulsifying wax, white soft paraffin, methyl salicylate, methyl hydroxybenzoate (E218), butyl hydroxybenzoate and water.
What do the active ingredients in this product do?
Zinc oxide has astringent properties, which help to shrink swelling. It also helps soothe and protect the area around the back passage from damage and has mild antiseptic properties.
Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic which helps to soothe swelling, pain and irritation and relieve itching.
The cream base acts as an emollient to help the passing of stools and reduce the straining which is bad for piles (haemorrhoids).
Warnings
Check before you take this medicine
Do not use this product if:
• you are allergic to the actives or any of the other ingredients listed above.
E218 may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
Please talk to your doctor first if:
- you continually suffer from haemorrhoids or have severe haemorrhoids
- you experience excessive bleeding
- If you are Pregnant or Breast-feeding
You may use this medicine if you are pregnant or breast-feeding but as with all medicines at this time, you should discuss it with your doctor first.
Not recommended for children under 12 years.

Will this medicine suit you?
Most people using Germoloids Cream find it causes them no problems. However, rarely some people experience increased local irritation at the site of application. If you are concerned about this, or if this product affects you in any other way, stop using it and talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
